31 Days of Horror Reviews 2018: Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy
Last day of 31 Days of Horror Reviews will be on Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy.
REVIEW
Abbott and Costello are two hapless archaeologists who are caught in the middle of some treasure plunderers and a secret organization protecting the mummy’s tomb. There’s definitely some more physical comedy in this one than in Meet Frankenstein and that certainly gives this movie it’s own charm. Unfortunately, the flaw with this film is that the monster doesn’t get as much screen time as the comedy duo and he’s not played by any Universal veteran. Not to say that there weren’t any funny moments, one of the highlights is when Abbott and Costello keep covertly giving the cursed amulet to each other either through slight of hand or average trickery and they just get more and more creative.
Aside from the impressive sets and comedic writing, Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy is a sort of a standard comedy film. It’s a good entry to the duo’s filmography, but as a horror comedy it’s lacking in the scare department.
