31 Days of Horror Reviews 2018: She-Wolf of London
She-Wolf of London is an alright film noir that would’ve been better had the title not been so misleading.
REVIEW
The thing is that She-Wolf of London works as a murder mystery; it uses odd angles, dramatic lighting, and a clever twist for the time, but as a monster movie it falls flat because there is no monster.
The whole story is that there have been a series of murders at a park near the Allenby Estate believed to be from a werewolf. Phyllis Allenby believes she’s committing the murders at night because of something called “The Curse of the Allenbys” and wakes up with blood on her hands and mud on her shoes. It’s revealed in the last three minutes that Phyllis’ aunt Marta who is also the house keeper has been committing the murders in order to drive Phyllis insane and kill her so she can inherit the estate.
Some of the acting is a little flat, but the film runs at a steady pace and builds up to the climax very well. If you’re in to the Film Noir genre, I do recommend giving this a watch, but if a monster movie is what you’re looking, then you can skip this one.
