31 Days of Horror Reviews 2018: The Creature Walks Among Us
The second sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon sort of makes up for the lackluster sequel.
REVIEW
The story is about another expedition that plans to capture Gill-Man so they can study it further. So, it’s the same general story line as the previous films, but this film actually introduces something new: Gill-Man evolves. During an attempt to capture him, Gill-Man accidentally covers himself in gasoline and gets 3rd Degree burns. When the scientists take him to the boat to heal him, they find that he looks a little more human.
I think the reason why this film is slightly better than Revenge is because not only is there tension from trying to capture the creature, but there’s also tension between the crew on the boat. The captain is mentally abusive to his wife and gets increasingly jealous as the other scientists flirt with her. It comes to a point where he actually kills one of the scientists in a rage a tosses him in Gill-Man’s cage. He’s a complete scumbag, but he was the only character with a personality which is the other reason why this film does better than Revenge.
Sadly, The Creature Walks Among Us just isn’t as interesting or gripping as the original.
